Jobs for mums
Finding jobs for mums which are worthwhile, fit around being a mother and pay well, are perfect but where are they and do they exist?
The answer is most definately yes! However first you need to know exactly what you are looking for.
There are thousands of jobs for mums available; on the internet, in the newspapers, in job centres but finding jobs for mums to suit, can be time consuming and you may end up trialling several different ones before finding something which is idea.
Jobs for mums need to cater around you and your family as each mum and family is very individual. Some mums prefer to work away from the home for a few hours or a day or two, for other mums this is just not possible and the work opportunity needs to be from at home.
If you have very young children, your husband or partner is away frequently, if you just don't want to send your children to nursery or school at the first possible instance, or maybe you home school; you need to find jobs for mums which are completely flexible and work around you and your families needs and requirements.
For several years now, I have been taking young foreign students into my home on a regular basis. I had been looking at suitable jobs for mums for some time and couldn't find any part time work which paid well and fitted in nicely with my daily routine. I didn't want to pay to send my daughter to nursery just so that I could earn a few extra pounds to then spend on childcare. I wanted something which enriched our lives and stacking shelves or stuffing envelopes wasn't going to further my career development or give me job satisfaction!
My daughter was around two years old when I came across the possibility of -hosting a foreign student- completely by accident. At first I thought it was an awful idea. Having someone in the house who I didn't know and who didn't speak the langauge didn't appeal at all.
At the time I was doing a telesales job from home which paid well, if you completed your quota for the day. Sometimes this was easy, frequently it wasn't and to finsh the work and get paid, I often had to find childcare cover for another day or so, just to complete the assignment to get paid. Also, I was at the mercy of the company I worked for; some weeks there was a lot of work, other weeks, nothing. It just wasn't regular enough to rely on. I found myself farming my daughter out because I had been talked into extra work and then being stressed because she wasn't happy and I didn't feel good because I wanted to be with her and make the most of her being around paricularly while she was small.
Student hosting however, makes for great jobs for mums as the student just fits in with daily life. We have a fairly regular routine and whoever is with us comes along; shopping, swimming, baking or cooking in fact whatever you would normally do in the week. If the weather is nice I will try to incorporate some trips out to places of interest for all of us. Students arrive with spending money and so its an extra treat and good excuse to go to places we either like or wanted to go to but haven't yet got around to seeing. We always eat our meals together and encourage our students to speak as much as possible. After a couple of weeks you are always amazed how much your student has learned and developed their language skills.
One aspect gained from this interesting extra income is that my daughter, now aged 10, is brilliant at languages. I had a problem, a big one, with learning basic French but she is totally unfazed by visitors of any nationality, French, German, Chinese, Serbian, Polish; we've had them all. She has developed an amazing 'ear' for listening and pronunciation which I am delighted about. Our 4 year old son looks set to follow suit too and is already telling me off for my incorrect pronunciations.
Looking for jobs for mums can be time consuming and if you don't want to alter your lifestyle dramatically or find that there is still nothing which quite fits your needs, consider hosting a foreign student for two weeks at a time. Don't be put off by having someone in your own home. Many people find the thought of having a foreign student in their own home unappealing at first but quickly warm to it once the student arrives.
An extra £30 to £50 per day for simply having a student around and changing little in your daily routine, this job for mums make good sense.
You can choose your students from the ones who apply to you so that they are the same age as your own children if you have children over 8 years old. Submitting your own profile on Xilfee will ensure a really good match of student to your family.
